Home Again

Lauren: “I need a dictionary for these shortened millennial words. Is margs a new terms for margarita?”

Dion:  “I’d rather read a dictionary than watch that movie again “

Did we just pay $14 for a Hallmark Channel movie?  This film was a combination of “Full House” any Hallmark Channel movie with simplistic dialogue and zero character development.  The story line was fraught with absurdities.  Full judgement begins now…you let three random millennial guys move into your home, pick up your children from school, and share such intimate details with them never once to pause to think , “Is this really a wise move?”  The truest moment of the film was Alice (played by Reese Witherspoon) unapologetically expressing her feelings about Teddy’s (played by Nat Wolff) not prioritizing her for a date they had.  This was one of few relatable moments in the film  Key word here is few.

This film fell short on so many levels.  It lacked focus for the targeted audience.  Rather, who is the targeted audience?  The newly single mom on a quest to begin again? The millenial use regularly uses shortened language? Or, the lover of romantic comedies? People will see it because it is Reese Witherspoon and directed by Nancy Myers.  We say pick one of their other fine films or “Big Little Lies” to watch at home instead.

From the desk of Dr. Metzger:

Home again was awful. The lines were so bad that I thought I was watching a rough draft of a script instead of the finished product. The characters’ romantic chemistry was zilch. The only thing that kept my interest was trying to figure out if Candice Bergen had Botox or a full facelift (she looked 10 years younger then her appearance in the Sex and the City movie, wayment). I had high hopes with the all female lead/director/producer ensemble, especially with Nancy Myers producing (loved “It’s Complicated”). Instead, it completely flatlined and even confused me at times. Who leaves their young daughters with strangers? What kind of alternate universe do your ex-husband, 3 dudes you just met and your kids sit happily for a meal? It doesn’t matter. Don’t see it, even if it comes on television commercial-free. You’re welcome.
