There is a funny web series called “Honest Trailers” that joked Oscars nominations are for films that are released between November and December .
One would think that the films after Awards Season are the films the movie companies are not sure would be a strong contender for the Academy.
Boy, were we wrong.
“Thoroughbreds” was an absolute snooze fest. It was a boring mash-up of 90s psychological thriller cult films, like “Heathers” and “Poison Ivy”. This film did not get the formula right. Basically, an entitled rich girl that did not like her stepfather and plotted with her friend to kill him. It was boring and predictable, and the 90s ship sailed and should have taken “Thoroughbreds” with it.
From the desk of Dr. Metzger:
A potential plot for murder, teenagers and sarcastic witty humor…sounds like a recipe for a good film, huh? I thought so too. Instead, I was bored as #&@!. You know it’s bad when you want the potential murder to hurry up and happen to make this end. The two actresses did a good job but this script was a death sentence. And for the first time in our movie going history, Lauren fell asleep in a film. It was only for a few minutes but that speaks volumes on how much of a dud “Throughbreds” was.
