Amanda Knox

There are two sides to every story…between those two sides is the truth.

For almost three years, America was enthralled in the story of the brutal murder of Meredith Kercher in the small town of  Perugia, Italy.  Amanda Knox, the young American girl in Italy, finds herself on the cover of newspapers around the world in this made-for-television drama-esque story as the prime suspect in Kercher’s murder.

In the 2016 Netflix’s documentary, Amanda Knox entrusted new directors Rod Blackhurst and Brian McGinn to tell her side of the story.  As a viewer, this was a conflicting journey of finding empathy with a young woman that somehow became a tabloid headline by having her sexual exploration turned into a sensational story. It was conflicting because you realize that we lost the real crux of the story…a young woman was brutally murdered and no one really knew how this happened.  This was a great documentary that gave people familiar with the roller coaster of the Amanda Knox trials another side of the story, and those unfamiliar with the story an opportunity to hear it without all the sensationalism.  I am still conflicted about her complete ignorance about what happened to Meredith. It is definitely worth watching.

From the desk of Dr. Metzger

What a documentary! I knew of Amanda Knox’s name from seeing her name blasted on magazines covers but knew no details of the case. Clearly, I’m the non-news watcher of the duo. On my way to work, I listen to Drake and Lauren listens to NPR. With that said, watching “Amanda Knox” got me fully wrapped in. I went from psychiatrist to detective to lawyer in the 90 minutes run time. I was so engaged that it had me reviewing the evidence and using phrases like “probable cause” with my husband. This documentary did its due diligence. It informed and gave a balanced perspective. At the end of it, I asked “Wait, did she really do it?”. Watch and determine your verdict.
