Queen and Slim

“All we can do is go forward. There is nothing back there for us. Let’s just keep going.” – Queen

We are conflicted by justice, love, and family that challenges us and our existence. Empathy and rage, longing for love and guarding our hearts, forgiveness and hurt… together Lena Waithe and Melina Matsoukas gave us a film which places those conflicts at our feet with such care and beauty.  “Queen and Slim” is an artist reflection of our times.

From the desk of Dr. Dion Metzger

This is how it’s done. A remarkable film from start to finish that was heartbreakingly accurate.
The statuesque beauty of Jodie Turner-Smith was so striking that it dominated the scenes. “Queen and Slim” is the perfect combination of a flawless screenplay, dope soundtrack and a passionate directorial debut of Melina Matsoukas. I loved it.

Our favorite guest reviewer….Aziz Metzger!

From Aziz Metzger

I’ll admit I came into this movie with lowered expectations due to the hype surrounding its release. What a thrilling ride! The mix of passion, betrayal, black liberation & police brutality were well done. Despite a few plot missteps & in my option a miscast lead in Daniel Kaluuya, I found Queen & Slim to be poignant & entertaining to watch despite its anticlimactic ending.
