The Aftermath

Alexander Skarsgård will always be Vampire Eric.  He knows how to get a woman to fall for him with those blue eyes.  Let me focus.  Love and death is messy. The aftermath of an affair is messy.  This film could be a Lifetime and Hallmark Channel mash-up, and I am a sucker for absolutely ridiculous romantic dramas. This is the perfect lazy weekend movie.

From the desk of Dr. Dion Metzger:

“Aftermath” wasn’t meant to go to film. James Kent’s adaptation of the 2014 novel would have been best translated as a soap opera. Everything happened so quickly, “Oh, you’re in love now? And you’re in danger? Who is this guy? Wait a minute”.  The romance was as cold as the film’s German winter setting. It had so much potential with the history and the characters but nope.

Working in a high school during Prom Season and students counting down the days until graduation made this film hilarious and very relatable. As I am overhearing a conversation about collecting money for the Prom after party.  The parents and students were perfect depictions of this stage in the senior year of high school, and it was not overacting with silly comedy to be make the film give us eye rolls.

This film was hilarious, especially if you have high school Seniors.

The Pact

From the desk of Dr. Metzger:

Add it to the list! “Blockers” hit the spot with the laugh out loud moments, high school nostalgia and relatable parenting moments. I loved it. John Cena is clearly following the Dwayne Johnson handbook of how to transform from wrestler to a box office favorite. He has the comedic timing to keep him in the game and I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of him. The kids were perfectly casted but Ike Barinholtz (“Hunter”) was the real star. I’ve been a fan of his since “Neighbors”.  “Blockers” was genuinely funny and the laughs are theatre worthy. Issa ticket for me.
